Indian Railways - My Experience !

So after a week i am writing a post here, actually i want to write more often but being little lazy and dearth of Ideas about what to post keeps me away from writing. But Today none of these things are hampering me and i will proceed to write now.

Traveling is something that we all look forward to and i am lucky that i had got chance to travel by all the four Primary transport modes(Road,Rail,Air,Water). But none fascinates me more than Rail traveling and i guess many will share this opinion of mine.

Its been around 8 years that i have not traveled by Train(long journey i must say) as i didn't get a chance to go at a far distant place.

The farthest memory of me traveling in train goes back to some 20 years back when on holiday we used to go at our Grandparents parents place Deoband(West U.P.) from Meerut, its around 100 kms from here, i remember at that time large Engines run by Coal used to pull Railway compartments, the Engine used to have
Spherical front shape at that time and lots of Smoke also used to vent out from the Chimney. I remember my parents had to struggle a lot to find a place to sit as General compartments were already occupied by many passengers. There were fights, bhajans, discussions, cards, vendors selling some Chatpata eatable stuff and lots more things going on at one instant in the journey. That makes traveling by a train so special as you experience so many things at one place that you can never experience in any other mode of traveling.

Then we moved to Delhi in early Nineties, same route was followed as Meerut comes in Between Delhi and Deoband, the difference this time was now the Engine was Diesel one except that there was no change in travel experience. At that time the compartments were of reddish Brown colour which i hated very much, that colour was so dull. What i looked forward on such visits was the food that we used to eat, it was not exactly food but some snacks, there were Popcorns and they used to sell it by saying Poppon Karare i guess it has huge effect when you pronounce something differently, then there were Nariyal(Coconut) slices, Chatpata Chola chat and i wanted to have all of them, but being a shy child i never used to ask anything but my parents would sense that from my face and after the completion of journey i would have tasted every single thing.

After living 5 years in Delhi my Father got transfered to
Betul(Southern Madhya Pradesh) so we were shifted there as it was 1000 kms from Delhi, this will give us a chance of Night traveling. We used to take G.T. Express from New Delhi Station that goes to Chennai and Betul used to come on that route. The train would leave at 6:40pm(still the time is same) from New Delhi and reach at around 9 in morning to Betul. I first encountered the Sleeper compartments then, my mom would prepare food for Dinner and it was fun munching on it while you are on train. My father would always purchase some Magazines from Book stalls, its another flavour of traveling by train to read something. But sleeping is what i never enjoyed in trains as train is continuously moving, but its completely different in AC Coaches which are much stable. But you cannot enjoy your journey better then Sleeper Coaches as the real India travels in it and you also get to see different terrains far better then closed AC Coaches.

Many times when train stopped on stations my Father used to go for purchasing some eatables or Drinking water, at that time i used to get very nervous, what will happen if train left him ? i used to search him where he his from Coach itself and if he is not visible to me tears used to be on corners of my eyes, but we traveled so many times and it never happened.

Now i must tell you about the Beautiful route from Delhi to Betul. If anybody of you has traveled on this route then you must know how scenic this route is. As you start first known place which comes is Agra, i tried many times to search for Taj Mahal but unfortunately its not visible from train. Between Agra and Gwalior comes the Chambal Ghati as the names comes of it we think about the Dacoits who used to or still lives there, after seeing it anybody can say that its a perfect hideout place as there are lots of very small paharis(hills), the complete look of this place takes you to the famous Shekhar Kapoor film Bandit Queen, then you have Beautiful Chambal river flowing whose water i remember at that time was very clear. Next en-route is Gwalior, the first things which i see is the Big Flood lights of Gwalior Cricket Stadium which is just adjacent to Gwalior railway station, then you also get a glimpse of Jain Temples and Gwalior Fort. Next on line is Jhansi  city famous for Maharani Laxmi Bai and best Hockey Player ever Dhyanchand but you don't get to see any interesting place there. Now comes Sanchi which is world famous for its Stupa they contain relics of Buddha and were originally commissioned by Emperor Ashoka the great, you can see them quite clearly as train passes very close to them.

After this Bhopal comes, the Capital of Madhya Pradesh, now from here 200kms of journey is left which i like the most , the terrain is mostly hilly now, different hills in amazing shapes you get to see there , its all green absolutely nature at its best. In Hoshangabad you get to see river Narmada the biggest river of Madhya Pradesh, then Comes Itarsi which is a big junction from there route of South Bound trains and Mumbai bound trains diverges. Now we are in the region of Satpura which is complete hilly and Betul comes in it, as it is very hilly at the back of train one more engine is fitted which helps the front engine in dragging the train forward. As you encounter 4,5 big tunnels  they confirms that we had reached Betul and our Jouney is over. About Beauty of Betul i will have to write seperate post as it has lot to offer.

Old Shatabdi Train
New Spanky Shatabdi

Old Rajdhani Coaches

New Rajdhani Coaches

I must write about the two fastest trains that we have Shatabdi Express and Rajdhani Express. I have not got chance to travel by Rajdhani but have traveled 4 times by Shatabdi. First was once when we went to Jaipur from Delhi, the Cream Blue colour combination at that time was refreshing as we had that Reddish Brown colour or Blue Colour trains only, the speed was also a difference but i never liked the food served in them the taste was not up to the mark, i don't know whats its quality now. Also the fact it has chair car Compartments you get tired in long journey. My sister who does not like to travel in AC on our very first journey on Shatabdi Vomited in the middle of our Compartment, we felt very shy at that time as all passengers were seeing us by grudging eyes but it was not her fault she didn't do it intentionally, afterwards we used to carry Vomit bags for her whenever we used to travel by AC. Now i have seen new age Compartments being used in Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains which have bigger windows and are much more comfortable.

Mumbai Local Train

Indian Railway is the biggest employer in the world and we must be proud of it as it caters to millions of people everyday. Everyone have their tales regarding their travel in Indian Rails.  What you experience in it is a life time one. Whether its Mumbai locals, Rajdhani, the toy trains, the steam Engine running trains you get different experience everytime. You make some great friends while traveling by trains as they give you chance to meet different people in course of your journey. Most of the part of the country is connected by Trains and at a cheaper rate. Don't have any idea about when i will get my next chance to travel by it but i am eagerly waiting for it.

India And Pakistan - Could we be Friends ?

Recently India and Pakistan Celebrated their 64th Independence day. Its been 63 years that we both are apart from each other and every year the hatred between both the countries is increasing. We accuses Pakistan for all the wrong doing and same ways they accuse us.

But as an Indian National i had always wanted peace between our Countries, fighting for so many years has not yield  anything for both of us, lots of Soldiers had died from both side, both the countries where many people don't get meals two times a day are spending huge amount of money on Defense Equipments just to fight against each other, is this justified ?

What i see is that Media also plays a crucial role in defining the relations between the countries, they can make or break. As the Common man does not have any straight access to whats going on in between two nations, they rely on Media for that. Today we don't have a responsible Media apart from few dependable ones. Most of the news are cooked up and served to common man, which only helps in adding hatred in our hearts against each other.

What i think is that we common people and the young generation want better relations between us and this is evident from this tweet by @farhanmasood who is a Pakistani Citizen on Pakistan's Independence Day.

Same ways on a Singing show called " Chhote Ustad " which is being aired on Star Plus Channel have brought Indian and Pakistani Kids on one Platform where one Indian and one Pakistani Kid had been paired into a team. You could see the friendship between kids, you can't tell who is Indian and who is Pakistani amongst them. Some of the Parents of Pakistani Kids were having tears in their eyes when they were praised by legendry Singer Asha Bhonsle even the Judges Sonu Nigam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan have great comradery going between them.

Yes the people like Hafiz Saeed there and some of the hardliners here are not willing to come on terms of Peace and they never will, but if me and you are determined towards harmony and friendship between India and Pakistan nobody can stop us to do that.

It is true that Pakistan has more number of hardliners then ours and many there are Brain Washed on the name of Islam but if this Peace process is started and if each and every one of us will remove hatred against our Neighbouring country from their Heart then a time will come when these so called Hardliners will have no one to look after them.

In one of my earlier post i have stated Pakistan as one of the Countries where i intended to visit in future, i wanted to have a look at the country which was our part some years back, i wanted to know what people there think of us, how different is it from us i suppose we are very similar whether it is our Food, our language, terrain, our Colour, some extent our nature also. If we are so similar then we should not be fighting. If Peace prevails between us then My dream of visiting Pakistan will not be very distant from turning to reality.

Right now Millions of Pakistani People are affected by Floods there and same ways in our Leh many also have lost their lives and their homes because of Cloud Burst. India has shown a good gesture by providing some economic aid to Pakistan for flood victims. Both the countries should help each other in their grievances, If Pakistan acts against the culprits behind Mumbai Attacks it would be a huge step in gaining India's Confidence.

What I did for two days last Week

Meerut is considered as a Sports City by many as different types of Sport goods are made here. In Fact many Indian and Foreign Cricketers play with Bats that are Made in Meerut . You must have seen Stickers on Bats with SS,SG and BDM written on them , all these Bats are Made in Meerut. Also there are various Sports stadium here and one of them is very close to our Office. So one fine day after Office me and two internship trainees Prashanth and Sheeraz went there to have a look at it.
                                                                     Sheeraz and Me Outside Stadium

The Stadium name is Kailash Prakash Sports Stadium. I have once more gone there and they say that even once Gavaskar played here a Cricket match, my Uncle has seen Mohd. Kaif playing here for U.P. in the Ranji Trophy match at this Stadium. As you enter the Stadium premises the first thing that greets you is many young Guys and Girls who come here to learn various sports, but the Stadium looks old and is not very well maintained.I could see  Athletes preparing here some for Long Jump some for Running and some  trying to Kick at a Cushioned pad thats been worne by a Guy who happens to be their trainer also. On one end Some Kids were playing Hockey on Grass field while Modern playing standard for Hockey require Astro Turf, but you could see enthusiasm in everyone no matter what kind of facility they are provided with.

                                                                             Inner Look Of Stadium

There is one more Stadium here in Meerut which i found well maintained as now a days Ranji Trophy matches are played there, i had seen few matches also there and some players which i had got chance to see are Suresh Raina,Mohd. Kaif,Praveen Kumar, Piyush Chawla, Sudeep Tyagi and some more which are not much relevant now, last year Rahul Dravid also came here who played for Karnataka.
                                                                  Boxers Practicing

We just stayed there for few minutes and came out of the ground , in the outer complex of Stadium there is one Olympic Size Swimming Pool where when i once went saw Fatty Children of some Rich family enjoying their time being in Water , swimming was not in their minds. In one dark big hall there is a Boxing Ring where many Boxers were practicing, that hall was so dark and so humid even for us to stand their for some time was difficult God nows how they practice there and if still we won an Olympic Medal in Boxing that is highly Commendable. Outside you have one Basketball Court and an Indoor Badminton Stadium.
This Scoreboard amazed me see the Spelling of Target

After that we came out of the Stadium and we were feeling hungry and we got to see a Thela on which Chow Mien were being prepared. As it was an Egg Chow Mien Thela i was reluctant to eat there as i don't eat Eggs but the Chef(can i call him ?) there said he has separate utensil for making Egg less Chow Mien so i was ready to eat. For me to eat something is delite but the thing that fascinates me more is to see it being prepared in front of me. I was served first and Prashanth and sheeraz later as they opted for Egg Chow Mien.Take my words it was one of the Best Chow Mien i have eaten, my mouth is full of water at present. When we finished eating one person came to take Half Plate Chow Mien with five Eggs in it, thats lots of Eggs as Compared to Prashanths and Sheerazs Half Plate which was made with only One Egg.

See The Face of Thela Wala glow with Confidence

After eating road side Chow Mien we decided to have Pizza at Dominos the next day. The reason for opting to go there was as no body amongst has eaten Pizza at these Branded Venues. So after Office we went there and with some difficulty in searching Dominos store we were finally able to locate it. As we entered we could see no body was present there which was a surprise, then for selection of the Pizza we were handed over a template which was showing various Pizzas, we opted for Fresh Country Veg Pizza(It looked the Best) which was written to be of 95 INR exclusive of VAT hence with VAT it costed 107 INR the attender told us to wait for 15 minutes for our order, we were shocked with this as they have this slogan 30 minutes or free and we were being told to wait for 15 minutes at the Dominos store only, can't understand this stuff from them. As we were waiting A guy and two girls also came but they were busy talking with each other and i thought they had no plan to eat here just came here for some peace, the Guy was clicking the Picture of one of the Girl( collecting some memoir ). At last our Pizza came and our first reaction was " Its very Small ! " nevermind
we must taste it now and second reaction after tasting it  was " Its not what we had thought it would be ! " all in all it was not a good experience for us and i planned from now onwards i will not waste my time and Money for Dominos Pizza as its service and the product could not lived to our expectation.

                                     Empty Seats At Dominos

                                                             Its me Waiting For Pizza

At Last Our Country Fresh Pizza

P.S. - All the Pics were clicked by Prashanth by the NOKIA Phone that he bought from his Cousin.

Two Lively Guys !!

They came and now today they had gone back and i know i will miss them a lot, in case you are wondering to whom i am talking about , well i am talking about the two Internship Trainees that came to my Office for their Summer Internship.

  Sheeraz And Prashanth

It was about two months back when i was climbing stairs of my Office and met my Boss in between, he stopped and said to me Abhishek we have two trainees and you have to look after their training . As i entered the conference room where they were present i saw two young guys who still looks like they have passed their Schools sitting. My Boss introduced me to them and left the room. Prashanth and Sheeraz were from Hyderabad and have just completed their third year in Engineering from a renowned Institute . We started our Conversations in English about what we will be doing and where we will be going, but soon i came to know they both can speak Hindi also although Prashanth whose Hindi i found to be very funny as he is not accustomed to it.

Gradually we became good friends and whenever I used to go on site for work they used to follow me. As the terrain they were seeing was completely different for them they had so many questions to ask. Abhishek Ji ye Kayku hota h ??? would ask Sheeraz in his typical Hyderabadi accent, but to understand Prashanth was little bit difficult when he speaks Hindi so we have to take help of our English linguistic skills. I remember on first day we went to Pilakhua near Ghaziabad and have eaten Bhutta with them and when returning they shared my Lunch which was Arbi ki Sabji and from that i learned Arbi is called Chamagadda in Telugu.

While Prashanth with his Nice Touch Screen Phone of NOKIA was curious to took pictures of every new thing he get to see while Sheeraz wanted to ask about places to eat here in Meerut. They both were huge fans of Non Veg food and will tell me daily what they had eaten, Being a Vegetarian myself i still would tell them where to get best Non Veg from.

From Monday to Friday they would be with me and on weekends they used to roam around. In fact they visited Delhi around 3 times along with NOIDA, Agra ,Fathepur Sikri and Sheeraz even went to Ajmer in their short stint they had here. They both had so good attitude that in Office they were known to most of the people in fact they introduced me to some of them.
                                                                      Sheeraz And Me in Canteen
Sheeraz is a Horse lover, whenever he sees one you could see glare in his eyes, i must say he is an Animal lover, knows so much about them and will always tell me unusual stuff about them. A true Muslim he was, on Fridays he used to go to Mosque in afternoon, even Once on Shab E Barat(i may be spelling it wrong) he spent whole night in Masjid praying. Whenever i was on low he used to crack a Joke to make me happy.
                                                     Prashanth and Me Sipping Coffee
Prashanth first sentence would he Hello Ji ! whenever we used to meet. He tried his best with Hindi and in the end i was able to catch what he wants to say. Most of the time he would be busy clicking pictures from the phone that he had bought from his Cousin he even bought a mini Laptop from one of his Friend for internship(what a great Friend he would be ). We used to have Coffee in the morning in the Office i will miss that now.

As i am the Junior most in my department it was nice to have someone with you around your, now as they both had gone back i will be again lonely. Have learned so much from them, their lively attitude, ever smiling faces of them, there was something in them that whoever meets them becomes fans of them instantly. Yesterday was the last day of them in Office and unfortunately i would have to go at a site at a distant place i would be returning late in night, i felt very sad for not being there with them on their last day. They pleaded me to meet them in Night but i came back late and could not meet them.

I know they both would be reading this Post, there so much i want to write about them but for now i just want to say that it was wonderful time with both of you here, i will miss both of you ! I don't know if i had fulfilled all the queries that you had but i tried my Best.  Just be in touch where ever you are. Surely we will be meeting again.

Here are some of the Pictures with them.
